How do you know if your existing community is adding value and being successful? How do you build a business case for launching a new community?

Some success measures of online communities can be tougher to observe and quantify than others. People working in the online community space tend to feel at a gut level that building and fostering such communities provides many benefits to the organizations that sponsor them, as well as to the community’s members. But not every business person shares this innate understanding. Companies typically need more than anecdotal information to justify the resources required –dollars, personnel, and advocacy – that communities need.
