Hey - great post. Finding your online community is an important first step in any community strategy, and one that some businesses seem to skip! I think monitoring your competitors is very important, as that can give some good insight as to what types of sites your target market tends to favor (blogs v. Twitter v. Facebook v. "walled gardens", etc). Sometimes taking a larger view can help you more clearly define the micro view.

Katie Morse
Community Manager
@misskatiemo
www.radian6.com
