Thanks a million to all of this year's participants in the
Online Community Summit. It was a terrific two days in Sonoma.
Everyone will come away with different impressions. Here were a few of mine:
- Emergence of the "Emotional Web": We heard a lot of discussion, particularly among the non-profit participant, of the importance of imbuing web efforts with "pulse". It is increasingly hard to engage users; It is almost impossible without appealing to their emotions.
- Emergence of video: We heard terrific presentations by Bill Schreiner of
AOL / UnCutVideo.com and Brian Gruber of
Fora TV about the emergence of video. It's clear that every organization should be paying attention to this right now.
- Emergence of China and India: Thanks to Satya Prabhakar of
Sulekha.com and Xioafeng Jin of
Linkool.biz with the fantastic presentations on the growth and impact of online communities in India and China.
- Emergence of... Everything Else: Peter Kaminsky of
Socialtext and Danyel Fisher of
Microsoft Research took us through a whirlwind of new technologies and possibilities -- hang on!
Thanks again to all of the participants -- again a great event.
