Our President Elect - Social Media Maven
It's been an exiting month in our country. Barack Obama was elected President and we get to watch some pretty amazing history in the making - our first African American president and the first time that social media was successfully utilized to raise money and gain groundswell in a presidential campaign. Obama embraced social media very early in his campaign, creating his own social network with profiles on Facebook and MySpace, actively tweeting, and posting videos on YouTube. In addition to raising money, fighting bad publicity and organizing people locally, some feel that his social media efforts helped him win the presidency because he engaged the people and built himself up much like companies do with their brands. There's no doubt that Obama will continue to engage his supporters through social mediums.

Engaging in Social Networks Instead of Advertising on Them
It's all about engagement these days. Engagement ads, engaging your community members all in an effort to build a relationship between the brand and the user. While Facebook's engagement ads aim to engage users, there may be other ways to engage and connect with users without spending your precious advertising dollars. Some experts believe that there is immense value in creating a human presence that represents the brand in the form of a blog, joining or starting groups, listening to conversations on the social space and connecting with the influencers. At a time when companies are tightening their belts, finding more creative ways to connect with your potential customers couldn't be more important.
