Online Community Highlights
Online Community Business Forum
The Online Community Business Forum was held April 14th and 15th in Santa Fe. The location was beautiful, the sessions were full of energy, and we had a former world-leader on site (Gorbachev). 65 online community professionals, representing companies as diverse as Apple and Linden Lab (makers of Second Life) assembled to talk about the business of community, and topics ranged from expanding the definition of community beyond your hosted properties to the real value of virtual goods. Alan Webber, co-founding Editor of Fast Company, gave the opening remarks for the Forum. One big surprise? The heavy use of twitter by both Forum attendees and those following the Forum via the "Tweeters".

What's the Buzz in Mobile?
You can almost feel the buzz in the mobile market, like a vibrating text message notification you feel in your back pocket. Companies far and wide are clamoring to tap into the US market by building better mobile browsers, mobile hardware and offering cool social networking tools and features to the millions of US mobile phone users. There is an incredible opportunity for social networks and online communities to expand their services via mobile applications and there is a huge unrealized opportunity for domestic carriers to offer more community building and social networking experiences.
These were some of the topics that were discussed at the Mobile Communities Unconference in March. In the end, the biggest question on everyone’s mind was ‘how will the mobile community market be monetized?’ Will carriers inherit the expense, or will marketing and advertising be the main source of revenue for mobile communities and mobile social networks?

Can you relate to the following? You've redesigned your site and yet you don't have a clear sense of how usable your visitors find it. As you embark on the next redesign, what can you do to guarantee that your site will provide a satisfying user experience? How do you measure, post launch, the improvements in site usability?
In this Web Executive Seminar hosted by Forum One, speakers will provide tips and case studies about how they've applied user-centric techniques to capture their audiences' perspective throughout the lifecycle of a redesign. Policy organizations, government agencies, think tanks, and other non-profits will benefit from hearing, first hand, how persona design, usability testing and similar techniques have provided powerful insights (not to mention time and cost savings) to other organizations as they've explored user-focused solutions for their sites.
